Is the Ancient City of Babylon Being Prepared for the Antichrist?

The other day I was watching Dr. Andy Woods of Sugar Land Bible Church in Texas on his podcast Pastor’s Point of View and was fascinated by the following report (see first video) he shared about the Iraq Development Road and how this may play into Bible prophecy in the future. (Please note that Dr. Woods, nor myself are prophets; thus, neither of us claim to know for sure that any of this will lead to the Antichrist, but it is a very interesting development.)

According to the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace,

Iraq’s Development Road project aims to create an Iraqi transborder transportation network connecting the Persian Gulf with Türkiye. This network would enhance Iraq’s geopolitical status as a trade corridor and provide financial returns, reducing the state’s reliance on hydrocarbons. However, the project faces obstacles, including challenges of financing and implementation, widespread corruption, the potential for insecurity and instability in Iraq, and the fact that rival transborder projects in the region mean countries may work against its success.

Here is a map from the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace of what the project will look like once completed. If you click on the map a new tab will open that will enlarge the map. You can then zoom in to see the general location of the ancient city of Babylon (just north of Babil), which is around 60 miles south of Baghdad. Once the project is complete Babylon will be at the center of this commerce superhighway.
